Statute overview

About this statute

This preamble says Colombia and Spain agree to update their judicial cooperation in criminal matters and improve assistance between the parties. This article says the Protocol is meant to complement and help apply the 1997 judicial cooperation agreement between Spain and Colombia, subject to ratified multilateral agreements on the same subject. This article limits the Protocol to judicial-assistance requests between the Parties for investigating and prosecuting specified crimes, and it defines terrorism, criminal organization, and drug-trafficking offenses for Protocol purposes. La Parte requerida debe cumplir las solicitudes de asistencia judicial según las formas y requisitos pedidos, actuar lo antes posible, y avisar si no puede ejecutarlas total o parcialmente. Competent authorities of both Parties may share information on their own initiative about certain criminal or legal offences, and the providing authority may place conditions on how the receiving authority uses that information.
