About this statute
This provision identifies Law 1201 of 2008, which regulates the finding of goods by a public servant. Found public-property goods belong to the Nation, which must allocate them or the proceeds from them mainly to support displaced people, terrorism victims, and in some cases social policy for disabled public-force members and their families. The ICBF keeps rights over movable goods found by private persons. Public servants must report fortuitously found property to the Fiscalía General de la Nación; if there is an indication it comes from illegal activities by illegal armed groups, a judicial forfeiture process must begin; if there is no such indication, the Consejería para la Acción Social may dispose of the property or its proceeds. The National Narcotics Council, through the rehabilitation and social investment fund, must allocate assets from illegal activities of illegal armed groups and any proceeds from administering or disposing of them, subject to Law 793 of 2002. Si los bienes muebles hallados son culturales o arqueológicos, la Fiscalía General de la Nación debe avisar de inmediato al Ministerio de Cultura.
