Statute overview

About this statute

This law states that penalties are increased for crimes against public health. Anyone who violates a sanitary measure adopted by the competent authority to prevent an epidemic can be sentenced to 4 to 8 years in prison. Whoever propagates an epidemic is punished with prison. A person who has been informed they are infected with HIV or hepatitis B must not engage in conduct that could infect another person or donate blood, semen, organs, or other anatomical components; the penalty is 6 to 12 years in prison. Contaminating or poisoning water used for human consumption is punished with prison, with a lower range for water used in agriculture or animals and an increase if the conduct is terrorist in purpose.
