This law sets guidelines for a public policy on the integral management of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (RAEE). This article says the law sets guidelines for integrated management of RAEE, and RAEE must be managed according to directives set by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. The law applies nationwide to natural or legal persons that import, produce, market, consume electrical and electronic equipment, or manage their waste. This article sets out principles for applying the law on electrical and electronic waste (RAEE), including producer responsibility, public participation, incentives, decentralization, innovation, gradual implementation, lifecycle thinking, sustainable production and consumption, and prevention. This article defines key terms for RAEE and related actors, requires the environment ministry to create a registry, and prohibits disposing RAEE in sanitary landfills.
