Statute overview

About this statute

This provision identifies the law as a reform of the Commercial Code and a set of rules for the governance and functioning of chambers of commerce. Las Cámaras de Comercio must be administered and governed by registered merchants who are affiliates, and the National Government determines each chamber’s jurisdiction. Each Chamber of Commerce must have a Board of Directors. The boards of Chambers of Commerce must include elected affiliates and government-appointed representatives, with government representation capped at one third and the Government setting the board size. Board members must meet specific eligibility requirements, including continuous affiliate status and, for some members, additional proof of qualifications or experience.
