Statute overview

About this statute

This law establishes a definition of environmental liability and sets guidelines for its management. This article states the law’s purpose: to define “pasivo ambiental” and set guidelines for its participatory, adequate, and timely management. This article defines “Pasivo Ambiental” as certain environmental impacts caused by human activities that are measurable, geographically locatable, and create an unacceptable risk to life, human health, or the environment. Certain public bodies must set policy guidelines for managing environmental liabilities within one year, and they must hold at least four territorial hearings with public participation. A committee is created to manage environmental liabilities, coordinate related public policy, and support follow-up and reporting.
