Statute overview

About this statute

This preamble says Colombia is approving ILO Convention 183 on maternity protection and explains why the convention was adopted. This article defines “woman” and “child” for the convention, applying both terms without discrimination. El Convenio se aplica a todas las mujeres empleadas, incluidas las que realizan trabajo dependiente atípico. Each Member must take measures to ensure pregnant or breastfeeding women are not forced to do work that is harmful or creates a significant health risk. Women covered by the Convention have a right to at least 14 weeks of maternity leave, subject to a medical certificate or similar proof. The leave includes 6 weeks of mandatory postnatal leave unless a different national arrangement is agreed.
