Statute overview

About this statute

The text bans gender discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment, and requires public authorities to promote equality. State institutions and state-owned enterprises with more than 50 employees must prepare equality reports. The reports must be sent to the relevant minister and the Minister for Food, Fisheries and Equality. Municipal and regional councils must report at least every three years on their equality work to local residents. Section 4 requires multiple public bodies and organizations to prepare, submit, and support gender-equality reporting, and sets gender-balance rules for committees and boards. The law enters into force on 15 March 2011. It does not apply to the Faroe Islands and Greenland, except that § 1 may be brought into force there by royal order with necessary local modifications.
