Statute overview

About this statute

This preamble publishes the Criminal Code and states several general rules: punishment must have a legal basis, the code generally applies to punishable acts, and the text sets rules on jurisdiction, self-defence, attempt, participation, legal-person liability, and penalties. Section 57 sets rules for parole from imprisonment, including after life sentences, and gives the supervision authority and the justice minister power to decide certain parole matters. Conditional release can depend on program participation and compliance with set conditions; probation can last up to 5 years.
