Statute overview

About this statute

This provision says the Tenancy Act generally applies to leases of houses or rooms, including subleases, but lists several exclusions and partial exclusions. Some lease agreements and related agreements must be put in writing if a party asks for it; the section also defines what counts as a property and sets a four-apartment threshold for applying certain other rules. Landlords must include specified information in certain lease agreements, and tenants/landlords may block digital-only notices with one month’s notice. Unauthorized lease forms and certain payment demands are prohibited.
