Statute overview

About this statute

This provision sets the length of the unemployment benefit period, defines key terms, and sets rules for placement and re-placement into a benefit period. Section 10 says the reference period can be extended or the benefit period shortened based on specific time and benefit conditions. A part-time insured member who has received unemployment benefits for 6,240 hours within the last 96 months has the benefit period under § 3 reduced by 130 hours. Section 12 sets rules for calculating and reducing unemployment benefit periods, including hour-based reduction amounts, maximum extension amounts, transitional rules, and when an outstanding reduction lapses. This section says the calculation of the total benefit period is based on the member’s insurance status on 1 July 2017, and that certain other provisions apply to people placed in an unemployment benefit period on or after 1 May 2023.
