Statute overview

About this statute

The text says the regulation implements several EU directives on driving licences and related transport rules, and it includes a rule that no person may hold more than one driving licence, subject to an unstated exception that is cut off. A driving licence may be issued to a person who proves sufficient driving skill and knowledge, and only if they have habitual residence in Denmark or have studied in Denmark for at least 6 months; some international and tourist licences are excluded. You generally cannot get a driving licence if your driving entitlement has been restricted, withdrawn, or revoked in another EU or EEA country, except for limitations listed in Annex 8. Driving licence applications go to the municipality, with special rules for under-18 moped applications and for the required photo. Non-Danish and non-Nordic applicants must attach a residence permit or residence certificate, unless they may lawfully stay in Denmark without a permit. An applicant for a driving licence must prove identity with specified documents, and a Danish licence holder may also have a digital driving licence supplement.
