Statute overview

About this statute

This provision says the Chemicals Act sets rules to prevent health and environmental harm from substances and mixtures, defines key terms, gives the environment minister several regulatory powers, and requires exporters in some cases to file an export notification. The Environment Minister can set detailed rules for export notifications, classification, packaging, labelling, storage, sales restrictions, requisitions, and reporting for certain substances and mixtures. Section 35 gives the Environment Minister rulemaking powers over approval, fees, authorisations, registers, journals, and related controls for biocides and plant protection products; it also requires certain businesses and users to keep records, provide information, or pay specified fees. The law starts on 1 October 1980. Existing rules and decisions continue to apply until replaced, and violations are punished under the previously applicable rules.
