Statute overview

About this statute

The regulation generally applies to animals, except pigs, horses, dogs, cats, and cattle. Tail docking is only allowed when specifically needed for veterinary reasons, and it must be done by a veterinarian with anesthesia and longer-lasting pain treatment. Lam may be tail-docked only in days 2–7 of life, and the responsible person may do it without prior anaesthesia or pain treatment. Castration of animals must be performed by a veterinarian, with anaesthesia and long-lasting pain treatment mentioned in the text. Section 6 allows castration of lambs and goat kids by the person responsible for the animals under specific conditions, restricts dehorning to veterinarians and only with anesthesia and pain treatment, bans certain dehorning methods, and sets a penalty rule.
