About this statute

This provision sets the scope and key operating rules for ship finance institutions, including notice to Finanstilsynet for certain temporary business, permission for foreign branches or subsidiaries, and a 70% collateral limit for loans financed through ship mortgage bonds. Et skibsfinansieringsinstitut may make ship loans only under specified collateral and solvency conditions, with limits on loan-to-value and loan term. A ship finance institution must secure valid, enforceable collateral for the ship loan, monitor the ship’s market value and insurance, and prepare separate accounts for capital centres. Skibsfinansieringsinstituttet must use a debt-based allocation key for certain capital-centre allocations, unless a referenced exception applies. The listed items in subsection 1 must be shown in a note, and the summed amounts must be allocated to the individual capital centres according to the stated method.
