Statute overview

About this statute

Pharmacy business may only be carried out under specific legal authorisations, and pharmacies/pharmacy branches must use names approved by the Medicines Agency. Lægemiddelstyrelsen may order pharmacy units closed and may grant special permission for a doctor to sell medicines to patients. Apothecaries have several statutory duties, and veterinarians may dispense medicines for animals under treatment within the stated limits. Section 62 requires pharmacies and apotekers to notify authorities in certain cases, follow rules on medicine services and reporting, and allows several data-sharing and rule-making powers for health authorities. Section 22 sets rules for pharmacy activities, veterinary medicine splitting, complaints, and pharmacy licences. Section 17 lets the Medicines Agency temporarily run an аптек when a licence is vacant and sets rules for applications, handover, continued operation, and loss of the licence.
