Statute overview

About this statute

This provision sets the length of unemployment benefit periods and defines key terms used for them. This section sets how reference periods are extended and how benefit periods are reduced based on hours, weeks, and months of benefit receipt. If a part-time insured member has received unemployment benefits for a total of 6,240 hours within the last 96 months, the benefit period is reduced by 130 hours. Section 12 sets rules for calculating benefit periods, reductions, carry-over, and transitional calculations for unemployment benefit members. The section says the total benefit period is calculated using the member’s insurance status on 1 July 2017, and that §§ 3(1-3) and 6(1) apply to people placed in a benefit period on or after 1 May 2023.
