Statute overview

About this statute

This article defines “veterinary legislation,” the requesting competent authority, and the requested competent authority for assistance between Member States. If a duly reasoned request is made by the competent central authority of a Member State, the requested authority must provide relevant information and carry out necessary investigations. If the requesting authority asks, the requested authority must notify it of relevant acts or decisions on veterinary legislation. Notification requests that state the subject of the act or decision may also need a translation, if the requested authority asks for one. At the request of the requesting authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food or the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs may ask the competent body of the Autonomous Communities to increase or reinforce surveillance in areas where irregularities are suspected. At the request of the requesting authority, the requested authority must share suitable data it has or obtains about effectively checked operations that may be contrary to veterinary legislation.
