Statute overview

About this statute

Cooperatives engaged in other productive activities do not lose their specific status just because they produce the goods or services they distribute. Las cooperativas de crédito must comply with sector rules from economic authorities to be formed and operate; some may use the names “cooperativa de crédito profesional” or “caja rural” if the stated conditions are met. Capital contributions generally cannot be reimbursed before 5 years have passed since the partner joined, unless the Department of Economy and Finance authorizes it.
