Statute overview
About this statute
The contract covers use of rural land for farming, livestock, or forestry. Unless agreed otherwise, the tenant may choose the crop type, must return the farm in the condition received, and gets the farm’s secondary uses. The parties may freely set the rent and may agree how it will be updated. A lease contract is mandatory, no matter how it is made. The parties may require each other to formalize it in a public or private document. The lease lasts for the period the parties agree, or, if they do not agree, for two agricultural years. The fixed term may be extended only by the parties’ express agreement. If neither party gives notice at least six months before a lease ends or is extended, the contract renews tacitly.
