Statute overview

About this statute

The competent authorities of both Contracting Parties, or bodies they designate, may agree additional exceptions to the rules in Articles 8 and 9 for certain persons or categories of persons. A covered worker temporarily in the other contracting party’s territory can receive healthcare benefits, and the local institution must grant them under its own rules at the expense of the competent institution. The same applies to qualifying family members. Certain workers covered by Article 9, and accompanying family members in specified cases, may receive healthcare benefits while working in the other Contracting Party’s territory. Family members of an insured worker who live in the other contracting party’s territory can receive health care from the local institution, unless they already have that right under the law of the state where they live. Los pensionistas cubiertos por este artículo pueden recibir asistencia sanitaria en la institución del lugar donde residan, y en ciertos casos también sus familiares.
