Statute overview

About this statute

Las autoridades sanitarias must ensure objective, coherent information on infant and young child feeding is provided to families and related carers, and they must ensure certain educational materials include specific clear messages; materials containing information on infant formula must not use images that idealize formula use. Health administrations must ensure certain donations and low-price sales are only made with prior written approval and only used or distributed for eligible infants. Infant formula and follow-on formula must be distributed and marketed in Spain in their original packaging through pharmacies and food retail channels. Whoever markets infant formula in Spain must notify its placing on the market to the competent authorities and send a label sample before or at the same time as the first sale. Products from third countries must meet the requirements set out in this royal decree when marketed in Spain.
