About this statute

Waters inside the defined perimeter around the Canary Islands are called “aguas canarias” and form the special maritime area of the Canary Islands Autonomous Community. This law defines the perimeter of the Canary Islands’ waters, says the waters inside it are called aguas canarias, preserves existing maritime delimitation, authorizes the Government to issue implementing regulations after hearing the Canary Islands Government, and makes the law effective three months after BOE publication. El trazado del contorno perimetral no puede cambiar la delimitación de los espacios marítimos de las Islas Canarias establecida por el ordenamiento jurídico español conforme al Derecho Internacional vigente. This law enters into force three months after its publication in the Official State Gazette. The Government is empowered to issue any regulatory measures needed to develop this law, after receiving a prior report from the Canary Islands Government.
