Statute overview

About this statute

Dog owners must register their dogs with the municipality where they normally live within one month of the dog’s birth or acquisition, and the dog must permanently carry its census ID. Municipalities are to enable suitable, clearly signposted spaces in public gardens and parks for dogs to walk and exercise. Animals entering or staying in the listed premises, and being transported on public transport, are subject to the applicable sanitary regulations. An animal is treated as abandoned if it has no identification of origin and owner and is not accompanied by anyone, or if it has identification but its loss has not been reported by the owner or an authorized person. Los ayuntamientos y los departamentos competentes de las diputaciones forales deben recoger ciertos animales abandonados o sin control y mantenerlos retenidos hasta su recuperación, cesión o sacrificio.
