Having regard to Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety(1), and in particular Article 25(1) thereof,

| Official Journal of the European Union | EN C series ---|---|--- * * * | C/2026/2583 | 30.4.2026 ---|---|--- COUNCIL DECISION of 27 April 2026 appointing representatives of Member States as members and alternate members of the Management Board of the European Food Safety Authority (C/2026/2583) THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, Having regard to Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety (1), and in particular Article 25(1) thereof, Having regard to the nominations submitted by Member States to the Council, Whereas: (1) | Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 established the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), comprising a Management Board as one of its bodies. ---|--- (2) | Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 requires that each Member State nominates a member and an alternate member as its representatives to the EFSA Management Board. The members and alternate members thus nominated are to be appointed by the Council for a term of office of four years, which may be renewed, and have the right to vote. ---|--- (3) | In accordance with the Council Decision of 7 April 2022 (2), the term of office of the members and alternate members appointed to represent the Member States pursuant to that Decision expires on 30 June 2026. ---|--- (4) | Representatives of the Member States should therefore be appointed for a new term of office of four years, starting on 1 July 2026 and ending on 30 June 2030. ---|--- (5) | Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 requires that the members and the alternate members of the Management Board be nominated and appointed on the basis of their relevant and extensive experience and expertise in the field of food chain law and policy, including risk assessment, whilst ensuring that there is relevant expertise in the fields of managerial, administrative, financial and legal matters within the Management Board. ---|--- (6) | The representatives that have been nominated by the Member States meet the relevant criteria.
