The regulation enters the name ‘Boudin blanc de Liège’ into the EU geographical indications register and allows certain FENAVIAN companies to keep using that name for five years.
| Official Journal of the European Union | EN L series ---|---|--- * * * | 2025/2341 | 20.11.2025 ---|---|--- COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) 2025/2341 of 13 November 2025 entering the geographical indication ‘Boudin blanc de Liège’ (PGI) in the Union register of geographical indications pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 of the European Parliament and of the Council THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, Having regard to Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 April 2024 on geographical indications for wine, spirit drinks and agricultural products, as well as traditional specialities guaranteed and optional quality terms for agricultural products, amending Regulations (EU) No 1308/2013, (EU) 2019/787 and (EU) 2019/1753 and repealing Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012 (1), and in particular Article 21(2) thereof, Whereas: (1) | Pursuant to Article 15(4) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, Belgium’s application for registration of the geographical indication ‘Boudin blanc de Liège’ was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (2). ---|--- (2) | No statement of objection has been received by the Commission under Article 17 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143. ---|--- (3) | The geographical indication ‘Boudin blanc de Liège’ should therefore be entered in the Union register of geographical indications, ---|--- (4) | By letter received on 7 February 2025, the Belgian authorities informed the Commission that certain companies affiliated to the Fédération de l’industrie de la transformation de la viande et autres protéines (FENAVIAN) (Federation of the processing industry of meat and other proteins), established on their territory outside the geographical area in question, had been legally marketing a product sold under the name ‘Boudin blanc de Liège’, using that name continuously for more than five years, and that this point had been raised during the national opposition procedure. ---|--- (5) | Since the requirements laid down in Article 20(1)(b) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 are met, a transitional period of five years should be granted to allow the companies in question to continue to use the name ‘Boudin blanc de Liège’, ---|--- HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION: Article 1 The geographical indication ‘Boudin blanc de Liège’ (PGI) is hereby entered in the Union register of geographical indications referred to in Article 22 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143. Article 2 Companies in the Fédération de l’industrie de la transformation de la viande et autres protéines (FENAVIAN), that marketed a product under the name ‘Boudin blanc de Liège’ or another name infringing Article 26(1) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 for a period of at least five years preceding the date of publication set out in Article 15(4) of that Regulation are authorised to continue to use the name in question for a transitional period of five years from the entry into force of this Regulation. Article 3 This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
