The Council renews the EBA Chairperson’s term of office for five years starting on 30 April 2024.
| Official Journal of the European Union | EN Series L ---|---|--- * * * | 2024/742 | 23.2.2024 ---|---|--- COUNCIL IMPLEMENTING DECISION (EU) 2024/742 of 20 February 2024 on the extension of the term of office of the Chairperson of the European Banking Authority (EBA) THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, Having regard to Regulation (EU) No 1093/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 November 2010 establishing a European Supervisory Authority (European Banking Authority), amending Decision No 716/2009/EC and repealing Commission Decision 2009/78/EC (1), and in particular Article 48(4) thereof, Having regard to the proposal from the Board of Supervisors of the European Banking Authority, Whereas: (1) | On 19 February 2019, the Board of Supervisors of the European Banking Authority (EBA) selected Mr José Manuel CAMPA as Chairperson of the EBA (the ‘Chairperson’). The European Parliament approved that proposal on 14 March 2019. ---|--- (2) | Regulation (EU) No 1093/2010 was amended by Regulation (EU) 2019/2175 of the European Parliament and of the Council (2) as regards, inter alia, the procedure for the extension of the term of office of the Chairperson. ---|--- (3) | In accordance with Article 48(4) of Regulation (EU) No 1093/2010 as amended, the Council, on the basis of a proposal drawn up by the Board of Supervisors of the EBA, and with the assistance of the Commission, and taking into account the evaluation of that Board of Supervisors, may extend the term of office of the Chairperson. ---|--- (4) | Pursuant to Article 48(3) of Regulation (EU) No 1093/2010, the term of office of the Chairperson is five years and may be extended once. ---|--- (5) | On 18 October 2023, the Council received the proposal from the Board of Supervisors of the EBA for the extension of the term of office of the current Chairperson, ---|--- HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION: Article 1 The term of office of Mr José Manuel CAMPA, Chairperson of the European Banking Authority (EBA), is hereby renewed for a period of five years from 30 April 2024.
