About this statute
This section defines “undervattensledning” and limits the law outside Finland’s territorial waters to Finnish-flag vessels, Finnish citizens, and Finnish associations. A person who intentionally or negligently breaks or damages an underwater cable is to be fined, unless a stricter penalty is set elsewhere in law. The owner of the first underwater cable must pay the necessary repair costs if another cable is damaged during laying, construction, or repair work. Leden ska ersätta skador som uppstår när ankare, nät eller annat fiskeredskap offras för att undvika skada på en undervattensledning. This section says the law entered into force on 18 March 1965 and repealed the 1938 law on protection of certain underwater cables.
