Statute overview

About this statute

A witness who does not appear in court without a lawful excuse is subject to the rule in Chapter 17, Section 62. A witness may not be ordered brought to court unless the witness is in Finland. A witness cannot be compelled to testify if that would conflict with Chapter 17 of the Code of Judicial Procedure or similar rules in the witness’s country of residence. A witness who has a relevant document must show it to the court, unless doing so would conflict with the listed procedural rules; before the order is carried out, the witness must be allowed to comment, and the court may use a conditional fine if the witness does not comply.
