About this statute
This provision defines what products and uses the regulation covers, including certain chemical preparations sold to consumers, large kitchens, or for professional use. A product must be safe for health when stored and used normally or according to instructions, and a product released for private consumption must not endanger other items or property. Sales packaging must use the markings required by the referenced consumer-goods rules, and if a removable outer case or cover is normally removed in use, the product’s commercial name must also appear on the package used for the product. For products classified as poisons, the required poison-law markings must also be added. The product’s common trade name must clearly show its main intended use, and if it has more than one use, that must be stated separately in the instructions. The trade name or commercial name may not include a food name, and food pictures may not be used on the sales package or the package used for the product.
