Statute overview

About this statute

Metsähallitus is a state enterprise under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and in nature conservation matters it is guided by the Ministry of the Environment. Metsähallitus must manage its natural resources and other property sustainably and efficiently, take biodiversity protection into account, and carry out the conservation, authority, and social tasks assigned to it. It may also perform other similar tasks. Metsähallitus must carry out nature conservation-related tasks according to objectives and appropriation conditions set by the Ministry of the Environment, and it must maintain a separate unit for those tasks. Metsähallitus must provide and develop its products and services appropriately and profitably, taking customer and societal needs into account. Parliament also approves annual targets on certain land and conservation-area arrangements during the state budget process.
