Statute overview

About this statute

Chapter heading: general provisions. This section says the Act applies to work done by a person under 18 in an employment or service relationship, with special rules for ship work. Young people aged 15 with completed compulsory schooling may be employed; 14-year-olds may be employed only in safe light work, and younger persons may be allowed to do temporary artistic or similar work with permission. Young workers aged 15 or over may enter, end, and cancel an employment contract themselves; under 15, a guardian may act or give permission, and employers must provide a written statement of terms on request in certain cases. The section sets working-time limits for young workers, apprenticeship students, and compulsory-school-age persons.
