Statute overview

About this statute

This is the heading for Chapter 1, “General provisions.” This regulation applies to deep-frozen food sold to consumers, bulk catering, or industry, and to some frozen food sales. It does not apply to ice cream, ice lollies, or other food ice, and it yields where other rules already regulate deep-freezing or freezing of food. This section defines three food categories: deep-frozen foods, frozen foods, and food sold partly or fully thawed after being stored frozen. Ingredients used to make frozen foods must be of acceptable quality, and the food must be prepared, cooled, and deep-frozen without delay using suitable technical equipment. Only air, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide may be in direct contact with food that is to be deep-frozen.
