Statute overview

About this statute

Specialläkarexamen kan avläggas vid vissa angivna universitet. Specialläkarexamen får avläggas av den som i Finland har rätt eller tillstånd att utöva läkaryrket. The provision states the goal of specialist medical training: to familiarize doctors with scientific knowledge in their specialty and give them skills for specialist duties, maintaining professional competence, developing the specialty, and working in the social and health care service system. Training leading to a specialist medical qualification is organized as training programs and takes five or six years of full-time supervised study. Ministry of Education decides which university programs lead to specialist medical degrees, after hearing the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The section also lists the medical specialty programs that take five years or six years.
