Statute overview

About this statute

This provision defines “fortbildning” as planned training based on public health needs, changing care practices, and an assessment of training needs for healthcare staff. Continuing education must be based on a plan made at a healthcare service unit, support the training goals, and use teaching methods that suit the target group and support the training purpose. The scope of annual training depends on the length of the worker’s basic training, the job description and changes to it, the difficulty of the work, and the need for professional development. Health care centers and joint municipal hospital-district authorities may arrange continuing education themselves or obtain it from another provider. Hälso- och sjukvårdens verksamhetsenheter ska följa fortbildning, utbildningsdeltagande och kostnader med hjälp av personalutbildningsregister, personalrapport och uppföljning om anställdas fortbildning. Kommunala arbetsmarknadsverket samlar in statistik för riksomfattande uppföljning.
