About this statute

Banförvaltningscentralen is an agency under the Ministry of Transport and Communications and serves as the manager of the state rail network and as the railway authority. Banförvaltningscentralen must maintain and develop the rail network, ensure railway safety, handle related authority tasks, support international cooperation in the sector, and collect control fees with related tasks for rail public transport as provided in the referenced law. The Council of State appoints the members of the Finnish Rail Administration’s board for four years at a time. The Council of State may issue regulations with more detailed rules on the National Railway Administration’s tasks, board, and internal administration. The law enters into force on 15 March 2003, and measures needed to implement it may be taken before that date.
