Statute overview

About this statute

Chapter 1 concerns brandskyddsavgift (fire protection fee). A fire protection fee must be paid annually in Finland for fire-insured real and movable property. Insurance businesses in Finland must pay the fire protection fee; in some cases the policyholder and broker are responsible, brokers must account for the fee, and certain foreign EEA insurers must have an agent for payment. Brandskyddsavgiften is set at 3 percent of the fire-risk portion of the relevant insurance amount, with specific exclusions for reinsurance and certain car, transport, and animal insurance. The county administrative board sets and collects the fire protection fee each year, and certain insurers must provide the information needed for billing.
