Statute overview

About this statute

Luotsausliikelaitos is a state enterprise operating under the administrative branch of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Luotsausliikelaitos must provide pilotage services and related pilotage tasks in the waters defined by law, and it must prepare to handle its duties in exceptional circumstances if the Ministry of Transport and Communications orders it to do so. The Government may issue more detailed rules by decree on the composition and duties of the board of the state pilotage enterprise. Luotsausliikelaitos must charge a fixed unit-price fee for pilotage services from the piloted vessel, with the amount based on the vessel’s net tonnage and the piloted distance. The law enters into force on 1 January 2004.
