Statute overview

About this statute

This chapter concerns the application scope of Finnish criminal law. This section says Finnish law on crimes committed in Finland’s economic zone is found in two listed acts. The provision sets prescription periods for certain environmental offences: generally 10 years, but 3 years for specified acts involving a foreign ship in Finland’s economic zone. An offence committed from a foreign ship in Finland’s economic zone under the listed pollution provisions may be punished only with a fine. The rule extends the provisions on prosecution and judgment in Chapter 1 to certain fishery offences covered by Section 2, when they were committed on waters outside Finland’s territorial waters and economic zone.
