Statute overview

About this statute

Pyhä-Luosto nationalpark inrättas för naturskydd och för utfärder, forskning och undervisning. Pyhä-Luosto national park covers about 14,200 hectares of state-owned land in Sodankylä, Pelkosenniemi, and Kemijärvi, and its boundaries are marked on the annexed map. For Pyhä-Luosto National Park, the nature conservation law’s protection rules in sections 13–15 apply, except section 14(1)(8). Certain residents may hunt in their home municipality inside Pyhä-Luosto National Park, but not near routes, service facilities, or the Pyhätunturi and Luosto tourist centres. Within Pyhä-Luosto National Park, it is allowed to economically exploit amethyst and other gemstones and to carry out small-scale related tourism outside the Luosto Natura 2000 area.
