Statute overview

About this statute

The diary must record certain details for each application, including the arrival day and filing day for Finnish patent applications. Patentverket must make a weekly list of incoming patent applications, and anyone may obtain the list for a fixed fee. The applicant must request patent priority in writing within 16 months and provide details of the earlier application; in some cases priority can be added or corrected, but not after the application becomes public. An applicant claiming priority must file proof and a certified copy with the patent office within 16 months; for a biological material deposit, the applicant must also notify the office of the depository institution and deposit number within the same period. A request to release a sample only to a special expert must be made within 16 months of the patent application filing date, or from the claimed priority date if priority is claimed.
