Statute overview

About this statute

Chapter 1 covers the general provisions. This provision states the law’s purpose: to ensure food safety, truthful and sufficient food information, consumer protection, traceability, high-quality food control, and better operating conditions for food-sector operators. This section says the law applies to food, food handling conditions, food business operators, and food control across production, processing, and distribution stages. This section says the law also applies to implementing listed EU food and food control rules, unless their implementation is regulated elsewhere. This provision says the law does not apply to certain private-household own-use production and food handling, to alcoholic beverages or preparations covered elsewhere in legislation, and Chapter 3 does not apply to activities referred to in sections 13(6) and 22(4).
