Statute overview

About this statute

Lagen gäller vissa uppfinningar som görs av anställda vid finländska högskolor och av personer i forskartjänst vid Finlands Akademi, när uppfinningarna kan patenteras i Finland. The law’s purpose is to promote the identification, protection, and use of inventions made in Finnish universities, in a way that suits inventors, universities, and society. This section defines key terms used in the law, including higher education institutions, open research, contract research, and inventions made outside those research categories. A person who has made an invention within this law’s scope has the right to the invention and the right to be recognized as the inventor, unless another law says otherwise. The inventor must promptly submit a written invention notice to the university and include information about the invention and all inventors. If there are multiple inventors, they must file one joint notice.
