Statute overview

About this statute

This chapter covers penalties. This section says that penalties for firearms offences and careless handling are set out in other provisions of the Criminal Code. A person who intentionally or through gross negligence breaks the listed firearms-related duties commits a firearms offence and is fined. A detaining-authorised officer may destroy certain low-value seized weapon parts, gas sprays, cartridges, or especially dangerous projectiles when a court would clearly forfeit them to the state; if forfeiture would be unreasonable, no forfeiture request needs to be made.
