Statute overview

About this statute

Migration Agency, police, or border control authority may decide to invalidate a visa when a foreigner is on Finnish territory. Migrationsverket may offer the applicant and the sponsor a DNA test paid by the state to prove biological family ties, and may require reimbursement of the test costs if false family-tie information was intentionally given, unless that would be unreasonable. DNA tests are carried out at the National Public Health Institute or the University of Helsinki Institute of Forensic Medicine, and the tester must promptly send an opinion to the Finnish Immigration Service. After deciding the case, the Immigration Service must tell the tester that the samples and DNA profile data must be destroyed.
