Statute overview

About this statute

The aim of the support is to improve animals’ welfare and health, promote more species-specific care for production animals, and increase farmers’ awareness of factors affecting animal welfare. This provision says farmers may be granted animal welfare support for cattle and pigs during the relevant programme period, from 2008 onward, and that the support may be paid within the budget framework stated. This provision defines several livestock terms used in the regulation, including cattle, pigs, slaughter pigs, calves, sows, gilts, pregnant sows and pregnant gilts. The farmer must commit to and follow the basic conditions for cattle or pig farms, or both if the farm has both types of production and meets the minimum animal-unit threshold. Jordbrukaren ska ha ett skriftligt hälsovårdsavtal med en veterinär på en blankett fastställd av Landsbygdsverket.
