About this statute

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare exists to promote welfare and health, prevent diseases and social problems, and develop health and social care services; it is under the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. Institutet har flera uppgifter inom välfärd, hälsa, social- och hälsovård, statistik, terminologi och internationellt arbete. The institute is led by a director general, who decides the matters the institute must decide unless another employee is assigned to decide them. The director general also approves the work order, and the institute appoints the council and decides on appointing delegations. The institute’s premises and their location are regulated in the rules of procedure. The institute may obtain certain benefit data from the Social Insurance Institution and may collect and process personal data plus blood and tissue samples for research and investigation purposes.
