About this statute
Chapter heading: "2 kap. Om domförhet". A district court in criminal cases is competent with the presiding judge and three lay judges, or with three legally qualified members when justified. The district court may add an extra legally trained member, and may have a fourth lay judge, if justified by the case’s size or another special reason. The district court may continue hearing a civil case in the same composition it had when the hearing began, even if the case later changes or is joined with a later case. A district court may sit with the chair alone in criminal cases, except for certain charged offences or where a stricter penalty than up to two years’ imprisonment applies.
