Statute overview

About this statute

A person may be entitled to certain disability-related benefits despite the residence-time requirement. A person who is 16 or older may have a right to care allowance if they receive certain listed pensions or compensation. A disability benefit is paid from the start of the month after the right to it arises, with an exception if the right arises on the first day of a month. Retroactive payment is limited to six calendar months before the application unless there is a special reason. A guardian, custodian, or other eligible applicant must report address changes, moves abroad, and returns to Finland for a child receiving disability allowance for persons under 16. Handikappförmånen avbryts om en utlandsbosatt förmånstagare eller en utlandsbosatt vårdnadshavare för en minderårig förmånstagare inte svarar i tid på en begäran om utredning.
