Statute overview

About this statute

If the fuel fee is paid in advance, it must be paid into Trafiksäkerhetsverket’s bank account. A vehicle subject to fuel fee may not be taken out of the country until the fee is paid; the Traffic Safety Agency or the State Provincial Office of Åland may allow export if acceptable security is provided. Trafiksäkerhetsverket may send a payment reminder for overdue fuel charges, but it must not do so if there are special reasons to refrain. Trafiksäkerhetsverket handles fuel tax billing and certain Åland vehicle cases, while the Åland State Office handles some of the same tasks for vehicles registered or supposed to be registered in Åland. Trafiksäkerhetsverket may issue a certificate that a vehicle’s fuel tax is not unpaid, and a fee is charged for the information under the state fees law.
